Mr Donald Potter, (former Chair of the Crewe & Nantwich Conservative Association) was recognised tonight at the 10th Annual Conference of the Cheshire & Merseyside Area Conservatives held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Chester for services to the Voluntary Party over more than forty years!
Crewe and Nantwich Conservatives have known Donald as a constant presence since the 1980’s during which he served as chairman on several occasions.
As well as serving the voluntary party at constituency level, he commanded respect as Area Chairman and it was in this role that he established the Cheshire and Wirral Area annual Conference - an event that continues and that even Covid could not prevent (it just went ‘virtual’!)
In 2021 Donald stood as the Crewe & Nantwich Parliamentary Candidate and this experience was invaluable when in 2008, following the death of the long-standing Labour MP, the national party descended with its campaign machine to fight the by-election. As agent to the new candidate, Donald’s role was pivotal in returning Edward Timpson to Parliament, giving Crewe and Nantwich its’ first Conservative MP since the constituency was formed in 1983 and first Conservative By-election success for twenty-five years.
Of course Donald isn’t going far! He will continue to deliver leaflets with the rest of us, (he enjoys the exercise) and will continue to support association social events! But importantly, Donald is looking forward to spending more time with his wife and family (and enjoying his hobby of visiting the nations art galleries).
The tenth area conference anniversary was a fitting opportunity to formally recognise Donald’s exemplary service over four decades to our constituency, to the voluntary and to the wider national Party.
His will be a hard act to follow but his hard work provides a sound foundation for his successor!
