The need for a Congleton Link Road has been in the pipeline for many years but finally came to fruition under the Conservative-led Cheshire East Council in 2016 when funds for investigative works were secured from the Department of Transport and Highways England. Once completed further funding was secured to start the construction phase. The first earthmoving exercises commenced in 2019.
Cheshire East Councillors receive a monthly up-date from the contractors on how the work is progressing and today Cllr Allen Gage (Willaston & Rope Ward) was able to visit the site in person.
Allen stated; “Nice to see the good progress being made on the Congleton Link Road (due to open in February 2021) this morning. Hopefully we can get some of the same focus and effort shifted onto dualing the A500 and upgrading the road infrastructure around Bentley and Leighton Hospital to remove some of the major traffic pinch points closer to home”.
The A500 dialling project is another initiative of the previous Conservative administration which is due to come to strategic planning at the end of this month. We will keep our fingers crossed for a good engineering outcome for this work that will extend from Junction 16 of the M6 to the Meremoss Roundabout at Weston.
